Standard Web Activity Log is a lightweight WordPress activity tracking plugin created for websites where multiple administrators, editors, shop managers, or privileged users can make changes. Its purpose is to provide a clear chronological record of important admin-side activity, helping site owners understand who changed what and when.
The plugin creates a custom database table for activity records and adds an admin page under the shared “Standard Web” menu. Logged entries include user information, action type, object type, object ID, object name, message, URL, and timestamp. This gives administrators a practical audit trail for many common WordPress management actions.
Standard Web Activity Log tracks post-related activity such as saving posts, moving posts to trash, restoring posts, and deleting posts. Because WooCommerce products are WordPress post types, product-related changes can also be captured through these post hooks. It also logs taxonomy term actions, including created, edited, and deleted terms, which can be useful for monitoring category and tag changes.
The plugin records plugin management events, including plugin activation, deactivation, deletion, and update-related events through the WordPress upgrader process. It also logs option updates while ignoring selected internal or noisy options such as cron, rewrite rules, active plugins, and the plugin’s own retention settings. User-related events such as new user registration, profile updates, and user deletion are also tracked.
A daily cleanup event is scheduled on activation. By default, the plugin stores logs for 30 days, with retention controlled through an option. This helps prevent the activity log table from growing indefinitely on active websites. On deactivation, the scheduled cleanup hook is cleared, and on uninstall the plugin removes its custom table and related options.
Standard Web Activity Log is not a full enterprise audit system and does not attempt to track every low-level database change. It focuses on useful WordPress and WooCommerce administrative events that commonly matter when diagnosing accidental changes, plugin changes, product edits, settings changes, or user management activity.
The plugin is especially useful for WooCommerce stores and business websites where more than one person has backend access. When something changes unexpectedly, administrators can review the activity log instead of relying only on memory or asking users manually.
Standard Web Activity Log is built to be simple, self-contained, and easy to understand. It provides practical visibility into privileged WordPress activity without adding a heavy analytics platform or external service dependency.
